About the Club

BUDO Sports Club was founded in 1984 by martial arts enthusiasts Alexander Zykov, Yuri Lakhtikov, Evgeny Bykov (Sr.), Gennady Galkin, Oleg Velichko and Yuri Solovyov to popularize these disciplines among young people as a section of ERS "Dynamo", and was registered as an independent organization on 20.01.1990. SK BUDO has been a member of the Estonian Karate Federation (EKF) since its founding on 15.02.1992. EKF is a member of WKF.

About the Club

Today more than 250 sports enthusiasts of various ages train at the club, starting from age 6. The majority are teenagers aged 12–16.

The club runs groups in three martial arts: karate, kickboxing and kobudo.

Traditional karate training is mainly based on the SHOTOKAN (IJKA) style. Classes are taught by highly qualified specialists with higher education, many years of experience and an Estonian Olympic Committee coaching category.

SK BUDO's head coach is Alexander Zykov (5th dan karate-do, 7th coaching category). You can learn about our other coaches and their qualifications in the Trainers section.

Over the years, the club's athletes have won numerous medals and cups at national and international competitions.

BUDO Sports Club is a multiple Estonian champion and winner of the Estonian Karate League (EKL).

Alexander Zykov currently serves as head coach of the Estonian national karate team (WKF).
Yuri Lakhtikov is General Secretary of the Estonian Kickboxing Federation (WAKO).

BUDO CUP

International karate tournament

Every year, BUDO Sports Club organizes the major international karate tournament BUDO CUP under WKF rules. Since 2007 the tournament has been held under the name Baltic Grand Prix — BUDO CUP and is considered one of the most prestigious tournaments in Estonia.

Important Milestone

23.05.2009 — the Baltic Grand Prix tournament was held for the first time under the revised WKF rules, whose main provisions took effect on 01.01.2012.

Summer Camp and Competitions

Every year the club runs a summer sports and wellness camp for its members. SK BUDO's sporting life is rich with in-house and away competitions, training sessions and club events.
