Kobudo — Okinawan Weapons Art
Kobudo is the traditional Okinawan martial art of classical weapons. At SK BUDO kobudo is taught alongside karate as a complement to martial training.
Sign upWhat is kobudo?
Kobudo (古武道) literally means "old martial way". It is the traditional Okinawan weapons martial art that developed in parallel with karate among masters who learned to use everyday tools as weapons.
The main kobudo weapons are the bo (long staff), nunchaku, sai, tonfa and kama. Each weapon requires its own technique and movement patterns, yet all are based on the same karate principles — balance, focus and precise technique.
Kobudo is not simply learning weapon technique. It is the preservation of traditional culture and philosophy that develops concentration, coordination and discipline.
Kobudo at SK BUDO
Kobudo at SK BUDO is closely tied to karate training. Traditionally, kobudo is studied by athletes who have already mastered basic karate technique, as both arts share the same principles of movement.
Our coaches have trained with traditional Okinawan masters and pass this knowledge on to their students. Kobudo training develops not only weapon-handling skills, but also overall coordination, balance and body awareness.
Kobudo suits anyone who wants to explore the traditional dimension of martial arts and discover something beyond ordinary sports training.
